FAQ for First-Time Hockey Families (U5–U7)
My child has never played hockey. Is U5–U7 okay for beginners?
Yes. These programs are designed for young players and new families — you just need to complete the Hockey Canada setup (HCR number) first.
Do we need an HCR number before registering?
If your child has never played minor hockey in Canada, yes — you must request and receive an HCR number before you can complete registration.
What documents do we need?
A scanned copy of your current Driver’s License and your child’s Birth Certificate are required by Hockey Canada. Registration cannot be processed without them.
Where do we register after we receive the HCR number?
Log in at register.hockeycanada.ca, add your child under Members, then search for HAMILTON STEEL to complete registration.
What payment types are accepted?
Payment must be made by e-transfer at the time of registration. Credit cards and cheques are not accepted.
